Head Chef - Ravenwood Hall - Shayne Wood

Shayne Wood is Ravenwood Hall's Head Chef, his experience in some of the best hotels and restaurants in Britain has led to fantastic testimonials and a very busy restaurant! Shayne's innovative and interesting menus using local produce are a winner and during 2012 the clients have commented about the unusual flavours and presentation. As he has a regular following, we thought January 2013 was a good time to tell you about his climb to "fame"Shayne Wood Head Chef Ravenwood Hall Hotel

Shayne is from Devon and studied at Exeter college, he had always wanted to be a chef, it was his dream to be a Head Chef using his creative flair and love of local fresh produce. The foundations of his training was French and as time has progressed he now includes Indonesian and African dishes to his repertoire

As with any chef, his training and passion have come from those chefs who he has learnt such a lot from. Phil Leach encouraged him when he started at Combe House Hotel near his home. He then moved onto Alexander House Hotel in West Sussex and this was the breaking point as he worked in all areas of the kitchen putting in 90 -100 hours a week,

Gavin Swonnell made Shayne who he is today and he will always be grateful to him. He worked with Philip Wild at the Sir Christopher Wren House luxury spa hotel in Windsor. The excellent chef, Steven Pitman encouraged him while at Summer Lodge Evershott Dorset, then onto Charlton House Hotel, Shepton Mallet where Elisha Carter a well known London Chef was a great teacher, Shayne said "to work alongside him was inspiring."

Shayne and his wife moved to East Anglia when he was offered the sous chef position at Bildeston Crown under Chris Lee, they then wanted to live in Norfolk so Shayne was Head Chef at The Victoria Hotel, Holkham. He then saw the opportunity to be Head Chef at Ravenwood Hall and has not looked back. He shares the owner, Craig Jarvis's passion to strive for 3 rosettes and loves the historical building and location.

In his leisure time he loves the relaxed atmosphere on the North Norfolk coast with his wife and 18 year old son and daughter of 16.
